Rather than be consumed by this, he became charismatic and outgoing, marketing himself as Jamaica's newest sex symbol. With his witty, blindingly rapid-fire, erotic rap explicitly describing his bedroom prowess, he had little trouble convincing his audiences of the early '80s.

Soon he was known as "Mr. Sexy." He soon proved himself able to out-slack the rudest toasters in town. This has earned him considerable criticism from those who find much of Yellowman's bawdy repartee irresponsible and damaging even though it is often spoken with tongue firmly in cheek.
